Culture and history

In the cadastral area of Dehtáře, the Boží muka wayside shrine is listed as a cultural monument; it is located in the direction of Břehov.

The earliest traces of settlement in Dehtáře date from the Eneolithic period, approximately from 5000 to 3000 BC, and are associated with the agricultural Linear Pottery culture. Further archaeological finds date from the Bronze Age and the Late Hallstatt period. The location of the sites suggests that Dehtáře and neighboring Žabovřesky were settled together.

The Chapel of Saint Florian in Dehtáře dates from the mid-19th century.

Landscape and nature

The Dehtář pond was filled in 1479 and constructed by the Rožmberks around the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. Its water surface covers 246 hectares. The pond is used for recreation and offers opportunities for swimming.

The Dehtář Bird Protection Area protects, in particular, the common tern and the greylag goose. When the water level is lowered, the exposed mudflats at Dehtář pond form an important stopover site for migratory waders.

Routes

The Cesta za budějická humna route leads to Dehtáře; from there, it is only a short distance to the bank slope of Dehtář pond. A yellow-marked hiking trail and cycle route No. 1085 run along this bank slope.
