Culture

The chapel in Žíšov was built in 1837 by the local judge Jan Šafránek on the site of a bell arbor after the bell had been stolen there several times. It was originally dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk; on June 26, 1907, it was consecrated to Saint Anne.

Matěj Kubeš, who was born in Žíšov on January 13, 1892, founded his own brass band, “Blaťácká kapela,” and composed around 300 pieces for small brass ensembles over the course of his life. The song “Okolo Žíšova” was performed for the first time at a Kubešova Soběslav celebration in 1999.

The Masopust tradition in Žíšov includes a masked procession with stops at local homes. The village square also hosts a celebration as part of an international brass music festival held in South Bohemia every third weekend of July.
