The “Nad Kovárnou” municipal ski area is located directly in Horní Vltavice and has three ski lifts. The area also includes a small snow park with natural and artificial obstacles.

Hiking trails lead from Horní Vltavice to Boubínský prales. At Jilmová skála, periglacial weathering processes have formed frost cliffs, tors, and rock walls. Jilmová skála can be reached via a walkable hiking trail located more than 250 m from the road.
Culture
The Church of Kostel Panny Marie, sv. Josefa a sv. Jana Nepomuka in Horní Vltavice was built from 1724 onward by converting an earlier chapel. The bridge over the Vltava in Horní Vltavice was declared a cultural monument of technology in 1987.
The complex comprising Schwarzenberský plavební kanál, Kaplický potok, and Vchynicko-Tetovský kanál is a national cultural monument.
Geographical setting
In the wider regional surroundings of Horní Vltavice, sections of Schwarzenberský plavební kanál have been reconstructed; demonstrations of timber rafting take place on these sections several times a year.
