Pístina: Hotels and Accommodation

In Pístina, the historic village structure can be identified through several specific features. The basic plot structure, essentially preserved to this day with 16 large farmsteads, is documented in the berní rula tax register of 1654, the Theresian Cadastre of 1757, and a building cadastre map from 1827.

Culture and History

The village green in the centre of the village is home to a chapel built in 1824, dedicated to Saint Catherine and the Fourteen Holy Helpers, which is now a protected monument. It has a hexagonal roof lantern with an onion-shaped finial. Pístina was founded in the Middle Ages; its original settlement structure can still be identified today.

Several lines of traditional stone boundary walls have been preserved in Pístina. The stone wall between the Adamovi and Daňhů properties is particularly clear. Pístina is also one of the villages in the Třeboňsko region with a village heritage conservation or preservation zone.

The Pístina Jewish cemetery contains more than 100 gravestones, most of them dating from the second half of the 19th century. The cemetery was established from 1850 on the edge of the forest approximately 2 km west of Stráž nad Nežárkou. It is locked; the key can be borrowed from the town hall in Stráž nad Nežárkou.

Further small monuments are scattered throughout the village: a small chapel stands at house number 10, while a stone wayside shrine is located at house number 87. The feast of Saint Catherine, Posvícení sv. Kateřiny, was recorded in Pístina on 21 November 2015, 19 November 2016, 24 November 2018, and 22 November 2025.

Nature and Surroundings

Pístina is surrounded by ponds and forests and lies within the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve. In the surrounding area, the “Nežárka” cycle path runs from the tourist signpost at Stráž nad Nežárkou Castle via Šimanov to Jemčina.

The former use of the landscape has also been handed down: a great deal of flax used to be grown in the area around Pístina. It was used for the then widespread production of linen; the municipalities had communal flax-drying kilns for this purpose, known as Pazderny.
