Doňov: Hotels and Accommodation
In Doňov, small religious buildings, old ponds, and a traditional local history come together. Anyone looking for a hotel in Doňov should treat the choice of accommodation as a separate part of trip planning.
Nature
Lickov Pond lies in a valley locally known as V Sedlicích. Its inflow area contains wetland vegetation and reed beds; the Doňovský potok has vegetation along its banks. Doňov is surrounded by several small ponds typical of the local landscape. Lickov is the largest of the old ponds around Doňov and covers just under 30 hectares. In the vicinity of Doňov, a belt of dense forests rich in mushrooms and bilberries begins, extending to Jemčina Chateau and onward to Třeboň. The landscape around Doňov is suitable for active recreation, including hiking and cycling.
Culture
The small religious buildings in Doňov include the Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the village green and a wayside chapel west of the settlement on a first-class road. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The wayside chapel standing west of Doňov on the former Imperial Road dates from the mid-19th century.
History
In the 15th century, Lickov Pond was known as Sedlečko. A local legend is associated with the V Sedlicích valley about a village that is said to have once existed there. Artifacts from the Roman Imperial period were discovered near the valley; an artifact from the La Tène period was also found there. The first written mention of Doňov dates from 1397 and concerns the obligation of the subjects to pay the church tithe to Dráchov. Doňov belonged to Třeboň Monastery for more than three centuries.
Geographical setting
Doňov railway station is located less than 2 km from the village on line 225 from Veselí nad Lužnicí to Havlíčkův Brod and serves seasonally as a starting point for mushroom pickers and day-trippers. The I/23 state road runs through Doňov. From 1827 to 1833, the former Imperial Road connected the village eastward with Kardašova Řečice and Jindřichův Hradec, and westward with Veselí nad Lužnicí and Soběslav.
Culinary experiences
