Culture and History

About 1.5 kilometres from the village of Klec, Oldřich z Ústí had a castle built between approximately 1395 and 1410; it is also partly referred to as a fortress.

The castle was conquered and burned down in 1435 by the troops of Oldřich z Rožmberku.

To this day, only terrain elevations in the form of ramparts and ditches, as well as a small fragment of wall, remain of the castle.

Klec is home to the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, a small monument of local significance.

Paths through the Pond Landscape

At the edge of Klec, the red-marked trail turns left at U Penzionu U Kačerů and leads over the dams of the Víra and Naděje ponds to the Naděje trail signpost.

The red-marked trail from Třeboň continues through Klec to the Nadějská pond group.

The trail then leads over the dams of the Překvapil, Nový and Krajina ponds, past the hamlet of U Nohavů, to the railway station in Vlkov.

Paved paths run along the dams between the ponds of the Nadějská pond group.

Rybník Klec pond can be reached via Road No. 148 from Lomnice nad Lužnicí towards Novosedly nad Nežárkou.
