Kněždub: Hotels and accommodation

The Church of St John the Baptist in Kněždub dates from 1898 and was built in the Neo-Romanesque style. Its interior was painted in an unusually modern style by the academic painter Vojmír Vokolek. The local cemetery, “Slovácký slavín”, is the final resting place of the painters Joža Úprka and Antoš Frolka and the sculptor Franta Úprka.

The birthplace of the Úprka brothers is a state-protected cultural monument. It houses a permanent exhibition of their works and also presents the period furnishings and fittings of the interiors in which they lived and worked. The restored birthplace of the brothers Jože and Franta Úprka was reopened to the public on 9 July 2005. It is a typical example of a building made of clay from its period and is one of the few surviving typical representatives of this type of construction.

The municipality of Kněždub lists the costumed fair celebrations “krojované hody s právem” in October as a traditional event.

The Čertoryje protected area extends across the cadastral areas of Hrubá Vrbka, Kněždub and Tvarožná Lhota. The area is home to the lady’s slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus), the sickle-leaved saw-wort (Serratula lycopifolia) and the marsh gladiolus (Gladiolus palustris). The lady’s slipper orchid is found at three sites in the White Carpathians and occurs there at two micro-sites, with two clumps. Serratula lycopifolia is found at four sites in the White Carpathians and forms extensive stands in the Vojšické louky area, as well as at two micro-sites of a few square metres below the summit of Čertoryje. Gladiolus palustris has its only site in the White Carpathians here and consists of a few specimens at a single micro-site.
