Culture and History

Medlice is documented in records from 1273 to 1285; Ludvík z Medlic is mentioned in them. Graves dating from the Únětice culture, from around the 17th century BC, were found in fields near the road to Horní Kounice.

A monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands on the village square opposite the municipal office. Graves of French soldiers date from 1805 to 1809; part of the French troops marched from Přeskače through Medlice to Horní Kounice.

The traditional customs handed down in Medlice include a procession on the Sunday before Easter, during which girls carry a Smrtolka decorated with colorful ribbons through the village. Also handed down are a traditional masked carnival procession through the village followed by an evening celebration, as well as a pilgrimage in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

Nature and Bodies of Water

Medlice lies in the valley of the Přeskačský potok stream. Two small ponds lie south of Medlice. One of the ponds in Medlice was converted into a natural swimming area; the necessary facilities were built on its shore.

The IDS-JMK bus route 443 serves the “Medlice, křiž.” stop on the route between Tavíkovice, Přeskače, and Horní Kounice.
