Obora: Hotels and Accommodation

At the summit of the Malý Chlum table mountain lies a fortified archaeological hilltop site with several settlement phases. The most intensive settlement phase at Malý Chlum occurred in the 9th century BC, during the Late Bronze Age. If you choose Obora as your place to stay, you may wish to book a hotel.

Culture and History

The archaeological site at Malý Chlum served as a central location for the surrounding lowland settlements. More recent history is commemorated by the monument to the fallen citizens of Obora and legionnaires at the entrance to the village from the direction of Jabloňany. It was unveiled on 25 September 1921.

The settlement of Hutě sv. Antonie belongs to the municipality of Obora. There, birch-covered spoil heaps bear witness to the historical extraction of saltpetre and coal. Obora also has a continuing beekeeping tradition.

Landscape and Nature

Oborský Chlum reaches an elevation of 488 m; fossils, including ammonites, can be found there. The cadastral area of Obora contains palaeontological sites with prehistoric fossils that are referred to as “Oboria” because of their uniqueness.

The mountains of Skatulec, Jedla, Střela and Bučí are located in the vicinity of Obora.

In the wider regional surroundings of Obora lies Zámek Veveří Castle. The Pomník obětem 1. a 2. světové války monument is also located in this wider regional area. The Brno Zoo and the ruins of Kuchlov are also situated there.

Hiking and Cycling

A red-marked hiking trail runs through Obora, leading to Malý Chlum and onwards to Lysice. Obora also has a local cycling route.
