Sulíkov: Culture, Trails and Landscape

Sulíkov lies on the northern edge of the Halasovo Kunštátsko Nature Park. Marked local cycling routes and marked hiking trails pass through Sulíkov. Marked cycling route 5085 runs along the Kunštát–Rudka–Sulíkov–Kněževes–Hartmanice route toward Polička. Those who follow this route pass through several places in a fixed sequence; Sulíkov lies between Rudka and Kněževes.

The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Sulíkov dates from the 13th century. Its chancel tower is probably of Early Gothic origin and is one of the few exceptionally documented examples in Moravia. The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Sulíkov is included on the Czech Republic’s heritage list. The sacred building thus combines a medieval date with a probably Early Gothic component and registered heritage status.

The floor plan of the Chapel of Saint Monica and Saint Augustine is shaped like a tear and symbolizes the tears of Saint Monica for her son, Saint Augustine. The Chapel of Saint Monica and Saint Augustine was consecrated on 30 August 1998. The distinctive floor plan and the year of consecration define the chapel.

In the surrounding area, Kunštát Chateau offers accessible interiors that show the domestic culture of its last noble owners and the oldest sections of the original castle. The Blanice Knights’ Cave in Rudka, with sculptures by sculptor Stanislav Rolínek, is also located nearby. The area around the cave is laid out like a park. Kunštát Chateau and Rudka offer contrasting cultural highlights: interiors and castle sections stand alongside sculptures and park-like surroundings. The range therefore extends from historic interiors to open-air sites shaped by sculpture.

Vřesice lies in the Halasovo Kunštátsko Nature Park and in the protected zone of the Křetínka Reservoir. Povětrňák Hill above Vřesice offers views of the Boskovice Furrow, the Drahany Highlands and the Křetínka Reservoir. A windmill once stood on Povětrňák Hill. Brablec Hill offers a view across the entire Křetínka Valley. Šibeník Hill rises northwest of Sulíkov and offers views of the surrounding area from its summit.

Vřesice once had extensive ceramic production; pottery reached its peak in the 1930s and 1940s. Under suitable climatic conditions, numerous mushrooms and bilberries grow in the surrounding forests. In the summer months, a fire-water reservoir in Vřesice serves as a swimming pool. Vřesice thus combines a history of traditional crafts with forest themes and a seasonal connection to water.
