The fortification on Durana is almost circular, has a diameter of 50 to 60 metres, and is bounded by a wide rampart and a ditch.

Nature

Below the Úsobrno glassworks, the Mýtočínský potok stream winds through the valley of the Durana Nature Reserve. The protected area comprises a unique complex of beech stands with individual large fir trees.

Culture

The present-day Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Úsobrno stands on the site of a demolished chapel and was built between 1948 and 1951. It has an organ dating from 1850, which was extensively restored in 2002.

The Úsobrno Municipal Museum presents the history of glassmaking and agriculture, historical photographs of the municipality, municipal chronicles, and the banners of Úsobrno and its Volunteer Fire Brigade. The Úsobrno Museum is accessible by prior arrangement with the municipal office. The village’s glassmaking tradition dates back to Count Karl Maria Strachwitz, who founded the Karlshütte glassworks, named after him, in Úsobrno in 1827.

History

The fortified settlement site on Durana was a provincial centre mentioned in forged charters from the second half of the 11th century and fell into decline in the second half of the 13th century. The Brichtovský Mill is one of the notable sights in the village. The Horní Mill is the oldest surviving building in Úsobrno; it was built around 1610.

Getting Around

A long-distance cycle route runs through Úsobrno and splits at Trnávka in two directions, towards Hradec Králové and Jeseník; it is called the Jantarová stezka.
