Nové Krecany: Hotels and Accommodation

In Nové Křečany, concrete paths to the source of the Mandava and Hrazený meet historical traces and regional architectural heritage. A green-marked hiking trail starts on the outskirts of the village and leads towards the source of the Mandava and Hrazený, which is 610 metres high and considered the highest peak of the Šluknov Hills.

Nature

The source of the Mandava is a stop on the route; there are benches with tables and a fire pit there. The springs themselves are inaccessible because they are located on private property.

On the plateau of Hrazený, at elevation point 608, there is a viewpoint with views southwest towards Mikulášovice and the border ridge of the Lužice Mountains. From the Volský kámen viewpoint, you can see the Dymník lookout tower, Rumburk and the distant peaks of the Lužice Mountains.

The Valdek–Nové Křečany–Brtníky route includes a viewpoint near the sources of the Mandava in Nové Křečany and is classified as moderately difficult. The hiking route is 12 km long and is shown on Mapy.cz and on KČT map no. 13, “Bohemian Switzerland and the Šluknov Region”.

Routes

The Mandavská cycling route is approximately 42 km long, begins at the source of the Mandava in Staré Křečany and ends in Žitava (Germany). It offers connections to other cycling routes in Saxony, uses existing roads and local paths marked by the Klub českých turistů, is considered easy to moderately difficult and is suitable for families with children.

The “Along the Mandava River to Großschönau” cycling tour leads from Brtníky to the source of the Mandava, which lies between Brtníky, Panský and Nové Křečany.

Culture and History

Nové Křečany had a local tradition of sparterie handicrafts, producing utilitarian and decorative objects from wood, bast and wood shavings. In the early Middle Ages, the so-called Salt Road ran through Staré and Nové Křečany. This trade route led from the Baltic to the south and was used for the salt trade.

Kleesinlův kříž near the sources of the Mandava in Nové Křečany was reconstructed in 2011. It is a cast-iron cross dating from the 19th century, set on a granite pedestal near an excursion destination at the Mandava springs by Staré Křečany.

Picturesque Upper Lusatian house and half-timbered houses have been preserved in all parts of Staré Křečany, mostly dating from the 17th and 18th centuries and richly clad in slate. A number of Upper Lusatian house and half-timbered houses in Staré and Nové Křečany are considered local attractions.

Access

The hiking route can be reached from the Brtníky or Staré Křečany railway stations on line 084, with an approach of approximately 3 km. The Varnsdorf–Rumburk–Dolní Poustevna bus route can be used to access the trail; a possible stop is Staré Křečany, U Slov. lípy.
