Lipová U Šluknova: Hotels and Accommodation

In Lipová, architectural and cultural history meet signposted trails and a chateau pond with an island. Notable local landmarks include the Church of Saints Simon and Jude, the chateau with its park, and the 11-hectare chateau pond, also known as Slawatův rybník.

Culture and History

The Church of Saints Simon and Jude in Lipová was built from 1691 to 1695, elevated to a deanery church in 1926, and has been listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. Weekly services, as well as concerts and meetings organised by the municipality, are held in the church. Timber-framed house No. 424 was built from 1721 to 1724 and has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958.

The restored timber-framed house No. 424 contains an information centre, a museum and a gallery, all open year-round. The information centre is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Its garden also contains a permanent geological exhibition comparing the geological similarities of the Šluknov Hook and the Upper Lusatian Uplands and displaying more than 20 rocks.

The chateau in Lipová was built from 1737 to 1741 by the hereditary lord Wilhelm Leopold Salm-Reifferscheidt as a family residence. It is an example of restrained Baroque architecture with clear intercultural influences. The Lipová chateau pond, also known as Slawatův rybník, has an island and an area of 11 hectares. It was built after the peasant uprising of 1680 as an imposed act of reconciliation.

The Lipová cemetery chapel was built in 1875 in the Neo-Romanesque style and reconstructed in 2018. Třípanský kámen is a historic boundary stone from 1750 bearing the symbols of the neighbouring estates of Sohland, Lipová and Wehrsdorf. The chapel in Liščí dates from 1826, has been reconstructed and has a bell tower with a bell. Lipovské hudební léto had a long-standing tradition and mainly offered classical music performed by Czech artists.

Trails through Lipová

A blue-marked hiking trail from Šluknov to Lobendava via Jáchym runs through the centre of Lipová. Cycle Route No. 3041 also passes through Lipová. The Church Trail connects the Saxon town of Wehrsdorf with Lipová; it was restored in 2018 together with the town of Wehrsdorf and marked with tourist signs. Lipová’s historic lime-tree avenue provides space for walks and cycling trips.

The Kolem zámeckého rybníka nature trail is 2.4 km long and has seven stations. It covers invertebrates, fish, plants, wet alder forests and rodents. The nature trail is signposted in both directions from the pond dam and from the U Pytláka restaurant.

Chateau Park and Garden

Parts of Lipová’s chateau park, including the Baroque garden, have been restored. Lipová’s chateau park and chateau garden include a tree nursery and a hornbeam maze. The chateau park and chateau garden, together with the tree nursery and hornbeam maze, are freely accessible year-round.

Špičák Mountain lies in the immediate vicinity of Lipová. The area around Lipová includes Jitrovník Mountain, Idagrotte Cave and Großer Teichstein Mountain. In the wider regional surroundings of Lipová are the Postelwitzer Höhe viewpoint, Hohnstein Castle, the historic site of Hirniskretzschen and the New Waterworks Redoubt fortification.
