Světnov: Hotels and Accommodation

The first written record of Světnov dates from 1366. The settlement was founded before 1293 through the colonization efforts of Žďár Monastery. The poet, writer and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, Prokop Paeonius, was born in Světnov in 1581. In 1854, a chapel replaced Světnov’s old wooden bell tower.

The road bridge over the Stržský potok in Světnov is a cultural monument. A stone bridge over the Stržský potok was built in 1847 to replace an older wooden bridge. In the northern part of Světnov stands a stone cross dating from 1848, while in the southern part, a wayside shrine dating from 1719 stands beside the old road. After the First World War, two monuments to the fallen were erected in Světnov.

The Křížový kámen is a sandstone featuring an engraved cross with trefoil-shaped ends. It stands beside an old path in the forests of the Světnovské údolí valley. It probably commemorates the death of a Russian officer when troops were returning through the Bohemian lands after the Napoleonic Wars.

A hike into the Světnovské údolí valley follows a forest path along the Sklenský potok stream into the valley. The cycling route from Zámek Žďár leads to the Světnovské údolí nature reserve. The best time to visit the Světnovské údolí is around the end of March and the beginning of April, when the spring snowflakes are in fullest bloom.
