Hojanovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Hojanovice stretches across three sides of a secluded deep valley. The Hojanovice Valley lies above the reservoir of the Švihov Dam; at the same time, the Švihov (Želivka) area is part of the Želivka European Site of Community Importance.

Landscape and Nature

The Doubkův vrch hill [Koberovice] is located in the immediate vicinity of Hojanovice. The surrounding area also includes Melechov Hill, Špičák Hill, and Ostojovka Hill [Ledeč nad Sázavou-Souboř].

History and Village Character

Hojanovice was first mentioned in writing in 1318, when it was recorded as a possession of the Želiv estate. A simple prismatic chapel stands in the middle of the lower village square; it was built after 1858 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The replacement bell of the Hojanovice chapel was hung and consecrated together with the chapel in spring 1948.

The Hojanovice Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded on 7 September 1902. A restored hand-operated fire pump is used in Hojanovice during demonstrations and drills as a unique museum piece.

Surroundings and Culture

A stone cross from 1885 stands by the road in V Osinách; from there, there is a view of the reservoir and Ježov. The ruins of Orlík and the Želivský Kláštor Monastery are located in the vicinity of Hojanovice. The Church of Svatá Anna and the Church of Svatý Jan are located in the wider regional surroundings of Hojanovice.

Transport

The main road from Ledeč nad Sázavou to Humpolec runs through Hojanovice. All settlements in the territory of Hojanovice are served by bus routes.
