Culture and History

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the village square of Samšín, near Pacov. Samšín is first mentioned historically in an urbarium of Oldřich of Rožmberk from before 1373, in the form “Sampschin”. Until the abolition of patrimonial administration in 1849, the village belonged to the Pacov estate.

The Želivský Kláštor Monastery, the Church of Saint John and the Church of Saint Anne are located in the vicinity of Samšín. The Orlík ruins are also located in the wider surrounding region.

Mount Cetoraz, Mount Vrchy and Mount Orlov are located in the vicinity of Samšín. Putimovský vrch is also located in the wider surrounding region.

From the bus stop opposite the turnoff to Samšín, there is a view of Mount Stražiště and the neighbouring municipality of Velká Chyška. Cycle Route No. 1218 Pacov–Želiv passes through Samšín.

Events

On 20 July 2024, the fourth round of the Pelhřimov Firefighters’ League took place in Samšín. The Samšín Cup is a sporting and social event held annually in Samšín. It includes a volleyball tournament for pairs, including mixed pairs, played on an unusual playing field specific to the event.
