Ujarma: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture

The Ujarma Museum Reserve comprises a walled fortress city with defensive towers, a citadel, an inner fortress, a palace, a reservoir, and a church. Admission to the museum reserve is free.

The main historical buildings were erected in the 5th century; later, they were rebuilt during the High and Late Middle Ages. The construction of Ujarma is attributed to King Aspagur at the turn of the 3rd and 4th centuries. In the 4th century, King Mirian transformed Ujarma into a princely fortress city, while King Vakhtang Gorgasali made Ujarma the temporary capital in the 5th century. Following the works associated with Vakhtang Gorgasali, Dachi completed the fortress city.

The complex consists of an inner fortress on a ridge and an inner fortress on a steep, rocky slope descending toward the river. The oldest lower level of the Jvari-Patiosani Church is attached to a tower, with the tower entrance left open.

The fortress complex offers views over the Iori Valley. The Caucasian agama has also been documented in the area of the complex.
