Őriszentpéter – Nature, History and Culture

It also covers the natural features of various habitats: settlements, forests, grasslands and wetlands. Alongside the botanical nature trail, it therefore focuses on connections between different habitats.

The fortified Romanesque Szent-Péter Church was probably built around 1230. Its historical period distinguishes it from the late Baroque Reformed church in Városszer. Thanks to its excellent acoustics, this church is also a venue for classical music concerts. Visitors interested in architectural history can therefore find different types of church architecture and uses in the town.

Near Szent-Péter Church is an excavated 17th-century brick kiln, which can now be visited as a monument. It offers another perspective on history, as evidence of brickmaking. Another cultural venue is the Malom Látogatóközpont at Városszer 116. It is housed in a 19th-century mill building and serves as an information point and exhibition venue. It also organises the Őrség cultural festivals and is their central venue.

The Szikszay Local History Collection is named after Gellért Károlyné Szikszay Edit. Archival photographs and characteristic objects from Őrség provide insights into both the region’s history and the everyday lives of the people who live there. The combination of images and objects offers two different perspectives: historical views and items from daily life.

The Őrségi Vásár is traditionally held every year in Őriszentpéter on the last weekend of June. The Nemzetközi Tökfesztivál is traditionally held every year in early October. The two periods are therefore well separated and can serve as different seasonal occasions for planning a trip.
