Culture and History

Numerous buildings of architectural and historical value have survived in Pagėgiai to this day. Vydūno Street in Pagėgiai is home to several preserved wooden buildings of traditional folk architecture, the Church of the Holy Cross of Pagėgiai, the old bell tower, and the building of the Kristijonas Donelaitis Gymnasium of Pagėgiai.

On 5 July 2005, a sculpture created by Steponas Juška (1953–2015) was unveiled in the centre of Pagėgiai Town Park. It symbolises the union of Lithuania Minor and Lithuania Major. The sculpture depicts a mother embracing a small child, rendered in pink granite.

The Christmas Goose Market traditionally takes place on the second Saturday in December in Pagėgiai’s market square. The Christmas Goose Market brings to life and highlights the traditions of the ethnic and cultural heritage of Lithuania Minor from the interwar period.
