Culture and History
TauragÄ— was historically known in German as Tauroggen. The town was first mentioned in 1507 in connection with the construction of a church.
The Convention of Tauroggen was concluded on December 30, 1812, between the Prussian Lieutenant General Ludwig von Yorck and the Russian Major General Hans von Diebitsch.
The convention concerned the separation of the Prussian auxiliary corps from the French army and helped initiate the Wars of Liberation.
