The archaeological landscape of Orheiul Vechi is located in the central-east of Moldova along the gorge of the lower Răut, 14 km upstream from the confluence of the Răut and Dniester. Orhei National Park brings together picturesque landscapes, ancient forests, archaeological sites, and historic monasteries in 18 localities in the Orhei region. The Trebujeni Landscape Reserve is a nationally protected area.
The medieval citadel was the residence of a Mongol ruler from 1366 to 1369. For a trip with several regional focuses, you can also explore the subregions Orhei, Trebujeni, Ivancea, and Peresecina.

On the Răut through Orheiul Vechi, a typical kayaking route is 16.5 km long and normally takes 5 to 6 hours. Paragliding in Orheiul Vechi starts from a mountain slope and glides down to the river valley.
