Bartula: Hotels and Accommodation

Bartula lies in the hilly valley of the Vruća Rijeka. The campsite is located on terraced ground where several tree species grow.

Nature

A marked trail leads from Bartula Camp through olive groves and crosses streams with crystal-clear water. Above ancient olive trees, the Bartula–Stari Bar trail offers views of the coastal mountains and sea; the route also passes olive trees of the indigenous Barska Zlatica variety.

An easy hiking trail runs through the Bunar gorge, over old bridges, past the Kajnak spring and thousand-year-old olive groves, as well as along Bartula Camp and a 2,500-year-old olive tree. The trail from the campsite to Stari Bar is 3.1 kilometres each way and takes up to about 1.5 hours. After the third bridge, it reaches the fortification walls of Stari Bar. A return route from Bartula can include a visit to the 2,000-year-old Old Olive Tree.

The Vruća Rijeka gorge has more than 30 vertical drops; the highest reaches 24 metres. A canyoning experience there takes five to seven hours and includes natural dams and pools. Canyoning tours end near Bar’s old town in the settlement of Bartula. After a walk of up to ten minutes from the campsite, swimming is possible in the mountain stream Vruća Rijeka. The stream flows year-round, although the water level can be significantly lower during extremely dry summers.

History

The Old Olive Tree in Mirovica is a protected natural monument and is more than 2,242 years old.

Practical information

The campsite has space for around 25 tents and rents out tents. Bartula My Olive Garden Camp is a tent-only campsite with parking spaces. The access route includes a steep, narrow asphalt road over the final kilometre. Bar’s central bus station and railway station are about 6 kilometres away; taxis are available, and transfers can be arranged by the campsite.
