History

The Vranjina Monastery of Saint Nicholas was founded between 1221 and 1233 and built on the foundations of a Byzantine temple dating from the 6th century. It overlooks the mouth of the Morača River on Lake Skadar. The remains of medieval churches and monasteries can also be found in Vranjina.

Visitor Center

The Vranjina Visitor Center features relief models of Montenegro’s national parks, information about natural and cultural heritage, and animal exhibits. The island fortress of Lesendro is located nearby.

The center provides information about walks and hikes along the shores of Lake Skadar. An ethnographic room illustrates traditional ways of life. For organized school groups, the visitor center conducts interactive thematic workshops.

Skadar Lake National Park has a visitor control and ticket office in Vranjina. The viewpoint at Vranjina features difficult terrain and is frequently exposed to strong winds.
