Czarnołozy is one of the oldest localities in Chełm County; its first mention dates to 1359. Another defining historical event took place on May 25, 1940: a police and military operation was carried out in Czarnołozy by the 1st SS Regiment “Totenkompf” from Chełm.

The operation also affected Ostrów, Majdan Ostrowski, and Wierzbica. A total of 12 people were killed in the four localities; more than 100 people from these localities were deported to Germany. The figures refer to all the localities mentioned together.
