Płock: Culture and the Vistula

The former synagogue building of the Muzeum Mazowieckie explores Jewish culture, the Holocaust and the history of Jewish people from Płock and Masovia. The Muzeum Żydów Mazowieckich is located in one of the two synagogues that once stood in Płock. Its permanent exhibition includes an area dedicated to the Holocaust and presents selected aspects of Jewish culture in Poland, including cuisine, music, holidays and customs, as well as objects related to Jewish architecture in Masovia. The exhibition is complemented by a multimedia presentation in the windows of the main hall of the Small Synagogue.

The zoo opened in 1951 and initially displayed only native animal species. A few years later, the exhibition was expanded to include exotic animals. The aquarium exhibition “Wody Świata” offers a glimpse into the underwater world: it opened in December 2016 and comprises 23 tanks, each with a capacity of between 500 and 40,000 litres.

In the zoo’s tropical jungle, birds, reptiles and insects native to tropical forests live among exotic plants. This area differs from the aquarium exhibition: here the focus is on tropical forest animals and plants, while the “Wody Świata” exhibition features its aquarium tanks.
