Cultural attractions include the Muzeum Młynarstwa i Wsi, the Bieszczady National Park Museum and the Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Bieszczadzkiej. Hiking trails lead from the market square to the sources of the Strwiąż, or from the town centre to the Jewish cemetery. For winter sports, there are the Laworta and Gromadzyń ski stations; a pump track is located in Park Pod Dębami. Another option for physical activity in Ustrzyki Dolne is the Ogród Sensoryczny.
Which trails can you explore in Ustrzyki Dolne?
The blue Szlak Źródła Strwiąża is a circular route: it starts at the market square, leads to the sources of the Strwiąż and returns via Park pod Dębami. The route is 8 kilometres long, with a stated walking time of three and a half hours. Another hiking option is the black-marked trail from the town centre, through the town and past the municipal stadium, to the Jewish cemetery. The walking time, without a break, is about 30 minutes.
If you are looking for a longer route across several ridges, you can follow the Korona Ustrzyckich Gór trail. It leads from the Bieszczadzkie Centrum Turystyki i Promocji headquarters via Kamienna Laworta, Mały Król, Holica, the summit of Gromadzyń and Orlik; from Orlik, the descent leads into town. The Szlak Kolonizacji Józefińskiej starts at the Izba Regionalna. On the way to the town market, you will find the first information board and signposts showing the route. The Szlak Naftowy leads from the Izba Regionalna via the pedestrian zone at the market and Fabryczna Street, continuing to Brzegi Dolne, Łodyna, Leszczowate and Ropienka.
Another way to explore the town is the “Ustrzyki Dolne - Miejsce Zbiegu Kultur” quest: walk to the points marked on the map and solve a riddle at each one. Maps and instructions are available from the Bieszczadzkie Centrum Turystyki i Promocji, Rynek 16, or to download from the tourist section of the town website.
Which museums and historic sites shape a visit?
The Muzeum Młynarstwa i Wsi has been at its current location since 2011, in a mill built in 1925. Its four floors feature a complete installation for cleaning and grinding grain in mills with modern drive systems. The annual Święto Chleba is held there, where visitors can sample baked goods, among other things.
The Bieszczady National Park Museum explores the geology, geomorphology, hydrology, climate and soils of the Bieszczady, as well as its flora and fauna. The exhibitions also include regional animals and plants. The Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Bieszczadzkiej is a brick church built in 1740 in the Baroque style. Another historic connection is the “Szlak Umocnień Obronnych i Pomników Przeszłości” project: the first phase plans to uncover sections of the trenches from the First and Second World Wars. They are located on the four hills surrounding the town: Kamienna Laworta, Mały Król, Gromadzyń and Orlik.
What activities and winter sports are available?
The Gromadzyń ski station in the centre of Ustrzyki Dolne has four drag lifts of different lengths, serving several downhill runs. At the Laworta ski station, there is a 300-metre drag lift for beginners and a 100-metre conveyor lift for children. Its main run is 1,250 metres long and FIS-homologated for slalom and giant slalom.
There are specific activities away from the ski stations, too: the pump track in Park Pod Dębami is open to everyone and free to use. At the Ogród Sensoryczny, a barefoot path runs over natural materials such as bark, sand, gravel, stones and pine cones. This means town sightseeing, trails, winter sports and these activities are all distinct options for your stay.
