Ogonki

Ogonki is located on Lake Święcajty, an arm of Lake Mamry. Święcajty covers 874 hectares, is up to 28 metres deep and has a highly indented shoreline with two islands. The village has a sailing harbour and Kąpielisko Ogonki, an unguarded beach on the lake.

The Mamry–Sapina waterway is also connected to Ogonki: it ends where the Sapina River flows into Lake Święcajty. The waterway across Lake Mamry and Lake Święcajty is classified as a Class II waterway.

Kąpielisko Ogonki is an unguarded beach on Lake Święcajty. Anyone interested in visiting this beach should take this into account when planning their trip. There is also a wooden jetty at the beach where sailing boats can moor. The beach and jetty give the lakeshore two distinct functions: one as a bathing area and the other for sailing boats.

The location on National Road 63 is also useful for finding your way around. Kąpielisko is right next to the road and separated from it by safety railings. Across the road, there are ice-cream stands, cafés and restaurants, as well as mountain bike rental shops and a car park. These facilities are therefore not on the same stretch of lakeshore, but opposite Kąpielisko, across the road.

The circular cycling route around Lake Stręgiel leads to Ogonki. On the section from Pozezdrze to Ogonki, it shares its route with the blue cycling trail “Błękitna wstęga jezior”. The route to Ogonki follows a former railway line and passes through marshland. If you are planning a cycling trip, this provides specific information about the route, its character and the section where the two named cycling routes overlap.

A comfortable cycling path also branches off the Green Velo route from the promenade towards Ogonki. It follows the former railway line.

There is a bunker from the Second World War by the bridge in Ogonki. It served as a fortification at the strategic passage between the lakes. The bunker illustrates the importance of this passage for the defences of the time and adds a specific historical site to the present-day landmarks around the lake.

Ice sailing is also part of the area's history: before the war, Ogonki and Lake Święcajty were known for it. This refers to the pre-war period and does not describe a present-day event or regular activity.
