Landscape

Bascov Commune lies in a transitional zone between the Getic Piedmont and the Pitești Plateau. The commune includes part of the Argeș floodplain and extends across the Cotmeana Platform, which is described as a plateau with relatively flat, stable terrain that is not at risk of flooding. The Argeș River runs from north to south along the left side of Bascov Commune, through its floodplain.

Dealul Viilor Hill is located nearby and is also mentioned in connection with the surrounding area. The hills of La Poieniţe and Dealul Siru are also located nearby.

Transport and Geographical Location

The Pitești–Curtea de Argeș railway line runs through Bascov and is served there by Bascov railway station. The station is classified as a local heritage building dating from 1880.

The paved DN7-E51 runs through Bascov for approximately 7.5 kilometers, connecting the commune with Pitești and Râmnicu Vâlcea. In the center of Bascov, DJ703 branches off from DN7-E15 toward Pitești and Curtea de Argeș.

Culture and History

The Casa de Cultură of Bascov Commune is home to the six-member male vocal group “Rapsozii Bascovului”. On May 15, 2026, the Casa de Cultură of Bascov Commune hosted an event dedicated to the ia, a traditional Romanian folk blouse.

The wooden church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” in Glâmbocu was built in 1808 by Dascălul Radu and local villagers. Its enclosed porch was added in 1869. The church can be reached via E81 and the Bascov–Glâmbocu route; the paved communal road DC212B then continues for another 300 meters to the church.

The wooden church “Sfântul Gheorghe” in Bascov is a historic monument located approximately 300 meters from the commune's administrative center. It was endowed in the mid-18th century by the merchant Martin Buliga from Pitești. The Vieroşi Monastery and the churches Biserica Cuvioasa Parascheva, Biserica Cimitir Moşoaia, and Biserica Hinţeşti are located nearby.

Events and Leisure

Bascov Commune Day, “Ziua Comunei Bascov”, is celebrated every year on August 31 and highlights local traditions and customs. The 2025 “Ziua Comunei Bascov” celebration included an artistic program by the orchestra, soloists, rapsozi, and dancers of “Doina Bascovului”.

The Islaz, Aninoasa picnic and leisure area in the Brăileni district of Bascov was used for recreation, exercise, and artistic activities on May 15, 2026.
