Agăș: Mountain Hiking Trails and Church Culture
Agăș can be considered from two perspectives when planning a trip: church culture and marked mountain trails. If you would like to combine different interests, you can consider both perspectives separately and then compare them according to the occasion, route and time required.
Culture
The eleventh edition of the summer school “Util, plăcut, frumos în Lumina Lui Hristos” took place in the Agăș parish from August 18 to 24, 2025. The 2025 summer school in the Agăș parish included stained glass, beekeeping with a glass observation hive, woodworking, pyrography and work at the potter’s wheel. The old wooden church in Goioasa dates from 1837.
Regional customs are also associated with a specific performance: The “Mugurașii” ensemble performed a collage of winter customs from the Trotuș Valley, including the Plugușorul custom, the Goat Dance, the Little Horses Dance, the Bear Dance and mask dances. Hundreds of worshippers gathered at Diaconești Monastery in the commune of Agăș to venerate the icon Maica Domnului-Altărița.
These references differ in format and occasion.
On June 24, 2015, a church youth project with children from parishes in the Muntelui Valley organized a bicycle tour to the “Pogorârea Duhului Sfânt” Monastery in the village of Cotumba, Agăș commune.
Hiking and Mountains
A mountain hiking trail marked with a blue cross begins in Diaconești in the commune of Agăș. The mountain hiking trail marked with a blue cross from Diaconești to Cărunta Peak passes by Diaconești Monastery after two kilometers and reaches Cărunta Peak at an altitude of 1,517 meters.
Another mountain hike began in the commune of Agăș, in the village of Beleghet; from there, the access route to the trailhead at Vârful Viscol was covered. The section from Vârful Viscol to Lacul Șolintar is marked with a red cross. From Lacul Șolintar, the trail continues with a yellow triangle marking to Păstrăvăria Cărunta.
The hike from Vârful Viscol via Lacul Șolintar to Păstrăvăria Cărunta is highly difficult and is estimated to take approximately 8 to 9 hours.
For comparing the trails, the different markings, the summit destination, the stated two-kilometer section and the estimated time frame are useful points of reference. This allows you to compare the options described side by side by route and duration.
Landscape
A hill along the mountain hiking trail marked with a blue cross near Diaconești offers views of the Trotuș Valley and the Tarcău Mountains. The hike via Vârful Viscol offers views of the Hășmaș Mountains and the Ceahlău Massif.
