Bacău combines diverse landscapes with natural history collections, music history, and regional culture. The Slănic Valley features beech forests, fir forests, and subalpine meadows. When staying in Bacău, the desire to book a hotel may be central to the booking decision.

Nature and Landscape

Nasolea Mare Waterfall is located on the Uz River at an elevation of about 500 metres in the middle Uz Gorge, between the northern edge of the Nemira Mountains and the Ciuc Mountains. Salina Târgu Ocna can be reached via the DN12A.

The Perchiu Nature Reserve encompasses a forest-steppe habitat in which steppe and forest vegetation are interwoven. In accordance with IUCN Category IV, Perchiu is classified as a nature reserve with a predominantly floristic and forestry focus. Lacul Bălătău is a natural reservoir formed by a landslide; the damming of the Izvorul Negru stream took place in 1883.

The Hemeiuș Dendrological Park lies in the floodplain of the Bistrița River and contains more than 1,300 rare and native species of trees and shrubs. The park is also home to a residence built in the medieval style, known as Castelul Roşu.

Culture and History

George Enescu completed his lyrical opera “Oedip” in Tescani, dedicating it to Maruca Cantacuzino. The Tescani Memorial House has been a department of the George Enescu National Museum since 2007.

The Bacău Museum of Natural Sciences presents the natural heritage of Bacău County in the “Nature Conservation” exhibition. Since 2007, the “Ion Borcea” Museum Complex of Natural Sciences in Bacău has celebrated European Museum Night every year. The Ion Borcea Memorial House displays photographs, exhibits, and authentic furniture relating to the scientist’s life and work.

The “George Bacovia” Memorial House in Bacău has operated as a museum since 1 October 1971. It is housed in a building shaped like a house, dating from the final decade of the 19th century.

The Festivalul Judeţean de Folclor is a traditional cultural event dedicated to preserving the authentic folklore of Bacău County from the Trotuș Valley, Siret Valley, Oituz, Cașin, and Zeletin. It concludes in July with a gala performance in the spa town of Slănic-Moldova.

Observations and Exhibitions

A complete visit to the “Victor Anestin” Astronomical Observatory includes the exhibitions “From Earth to the Stars” and “News in Spaceflight,” a planetarium show, and a visit to the circular terrace overlooking the panorama of Bacău. The observatory regularly organises public observations of astronomical phenomena and celestial bodies.

The Bacău Vivarium displays native and exotic fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds, as well as ornamental pigeon breeds.

Regional Traditions

Slănic-Moldova has mineral springs and has been chosen as a destination for recreation and treatment since 1801. Domeniul Cerbului is a local gastronomic establishment that cooks with fresh ingredients from nearby producers, following traditional family recipes.
