Bistriţa: Medieval Houses and Historical Traces
The Ansamblul Sugălete is the longest row of medieval houses with arcades on the ground floor in Romania. At the same time, Bistriţa is surrounded by hills with extensive orchards. For your planning, the city’s history and landscape can be considered as separate topics.
Culture
Casa Ion Zidaru is one of the oldest houses in medieval Bistriţa. It preserves Gothic architectural elements from the 15th century as well as Renaissance elements from the first two decades of the 16th century. Mănăstirea Dominicană preserves Gothic surrounds and masonry structures of the former Dominican monastery of the Holy Cross, which was already documented in Bistriţa in the 13th century.
Biserica Catolică is a Baroque church built between 1781 and 1787. It was built by Anton Turk according to the plans of the architect Paul Schmidt from the fortress construction office. The Pasajele Bistriței comprise 22 passages through the old medieval city, leading from the centre towards the sites of former fortified towers.
Casa Argintarului dates from the first half of the 16th century and is a representative Renaissance residence in Transylvania. It belonged to a goldsmiths’ guild or a goldsmith and had workshops on the ground floor as well as living quarters on the upper floor. You can therefore structure the city according to building forms, historical periods and different building functions.
History
Biserica Evanghelică is the city of Bistriţa’s most imposing historic monument. Palatul Culturii was built at the end of the 19th century by the architect Paul Brang in the spirit of the architecture of around 1900.
The floors of Turnul Dogarilor are furnished for art exhibitions or exhibitions featuring traditional objects. The focus of the exhibition area of Complexul Muzeal Bistriţa-Năsăud is on the German settlement in the Bistriţa district as well as on the urban freedoms and urban autonomy achieved in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Monumentul Exodul Sașilor is Romania’s only monument dedicated to the exodus of the Transylvanian Saxons; it was inaugurated in 2014. For your own planning, you can distinguish between architecture, urban history and remembrance.
Landscape
In the wider regional surroundings of Bistriţa are the hill Dealul Budurlenilor and the hill Dealul Săsarmului.
Leisure
Parcul Municipal Bistriţa has a cycle path, a body of water and a shrub maze. You can consider these three elements as a separate leisure focus alongside the cultural topics.
When comparing a hotel in Bistriţa, you can review travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions as separate offer details. In your own planning, these points can be weighted separately from the cultural highlights and the landscape classification of the place, without making one area the sole benchmark. For Bistriţa, you can organise a hotel’s details according to your own travel dates: the room category describes a different offer dimension from the cancellation conditions. This keeps the three details separately readable and allows them to be weighted according to your personal planning.
