Agigea: Sea Dunes and Bird Migration
Nature
Agigea: The Dunele marine de la Agigea are a 25-hectare botanical nature reserve of national interest and correspond to IUCN Category IV. They are the only nature reserve with sea dunes in Romania. The Staţiunea Biologică Marină „Prof. Dr. Ioan Borcea“ offers the public a thematic trail in the Dunele Marine de la Agigea nature reserve. The thematic trail leads through the plant communities and animal communities in the Dunele Marine de la Agigea nature reserve. QR codes are available along the thematic trail, allowing explanations of how the environmentally friendly structures were built to be downloaded. When planning your visit, you can consider the combination of the trail, plant communities, animal communities and QR-code explanations as different layers of information. The trail itself and the supplementary explanations can also be weighted separately.
Bird Migration
Lacul Agigea is a 35-hectare zoological nature reserve. Recent observations at Lacul Agigea mainly showed migratory bird species of ornithological interest. In 1967, researchers from the “I. Borcea†Marine Research Station in Agigea described bird populations of 5,000 to 10,000 specimens at Lacul Agigea, belonging to species of high conservation value. The Agigea Ornithological Observatory is the first permanently operated station for researching bird migration in Romania. The Agigea Migration Station prepares interested persons for activities related to bird ringing. Ioan Borcea“ was founded in 1926 by the zoologist Prof. Ioan Borcea. The different area figures help you compare the two protected areas in terms of their scale. Historical and more recent points of reference can be considered as separate nature-related topics.
