Discover Olimp: Beach, Culture and Landscape

Olimp begins with a clear coastal setting: Olimp Beach lies between the village of 23 August and the resort of Neptun, is relatively small and has a steep access to the water. A walk along Olimp’s elevated promenade offers views of the open sea. Most hotel complexes in Olimp are located on a high promontory that offers panoramic views of the sea. You can consider the beach, promenade and views as different themes for your personal travel planning.

Culture

The balneoclimatic seaside resort of Olimp was built from 1971 under the direction of architect Aron Solari Grimberg. Olimp was known for heliomarine treatments. In the resort, the Amfiteatru complex comprises the Amfiteatru, Panoramic and Belvedere hotels.

Two museums are located in the surroundings of Olimp: the Muzeul de Arheologie Callatis is a museum in the vicinity of Olimp, as is the Muzeul Marinei Române Mangalia. The Mânăstirea Sfânta Elena de la Mare, a monastery, is located nearby. The Biserica Ortodoxă Adormirea Maicii Domnului, a church, is also located nearby.

The Muzeul de Arheologie „Callatis” Mangalia is associated with the ancient fortress of Callatis. According to literary sources, the fortress was founded at the end of the 6th century BC by Dorian colonists from Heraclea Pontica. Museums, religious buildings and the ancient connection can be considered as separate cultural themes alongside one another.

Landscape

Landscape points in the surroundings of Olimp include Peştera Movile, a cave. Peştera Limanu is also a cave in the vicinity of Olimp. The nearby area also includes Movila Comorova, a hill, and Dealul Comorova, also a hill. For your own planning, these destinations already differ in terms of their landscape forms: caves and hills offer different thematic connections alongside the sea.

Geographical classification

Olimp is grouped together with Neptun, Jupiter, Cap Aurora, Venus and Saturn, as well as the spa town of Mangalia, under the designation “Riviera Sud – Mangalia”. Road access to Olimp is via the DN39, which is also designated as European route E87. The regional designation and the road designation belong to two different levels of geographical classification.

Leisure

Water-based activities and land-based offerings can be considered separately in Olimp. NAUTIC FUN BLACK SEA SRL was licensed for nautical leisure operations in Olimp I, subsector 2, Constanța (Olimp), with motorized and non-motorized boats; the authorization certificate bore the number 00134 and was dated 25 July 2023. There is a miniature golf course in Olimp between Hotel Arad and Restaurant Perla.
