Culture and History

The present-day Han Preajba is the former Iancu Jianu Manor. The former Iancu Jianu Manor, now Han Preajba, was built in the 18th century and was one of the area's most important recreational destinations for many years. Malu Mare was first documented in 1494.

The “Sf. Ștefan – Sf. Gheorghe” Church is located in Preajba, in Malu Mare Commune. Descriptions and repair cost estimates from 1925 and 1945 are associated with it.

At “La jumătăți,” an Iron Age settlement was discovered on the left terrace of the Jiu, 250 meters west of the town hall. The pottery found there is attributed to the Basarabi culture. The “La jumătăți” site on the Jiu terrace is being eroded to the south by the waters of the Jiu.

The butterfly Lycaena dispar, the large copper, has been recorded in the Malu Mare area within the Natura 2000 site Coridorul Jiului. In the Malu Mare area, riparian habitats form part of the protected Natura 2000 site ROSCI0045 Coridorul Jiului.

The Preajba - Făcăi lake complex is a protected area north of Preajba, in the immediate vicinity of National Road DN55. In the Preajba - Făcăi lake complex area, visitors can observe, among others, great egrets, white storks, little egrets, coots, pochards, greylag geese, and sedge warblers.

Bodies of Water

Preajba-Făcăi is listed in Malu Mare as a 19-hectare fishing water. The Preajba-Făcăi fishery was put into operation on July 1, 1966.

Dealul Robăneşti Hill is located in the surroundings of Malu Mare Commune. The hills Dealul Gârnicioara, Dealul Popânzăleşti, and Măgura Ţepeluş are also located in the wider regional surroundings of Malu Mare Commune.
