Culture and History

The Oaga Vijoii archaeological site contains a settlement of the Dridu culture. The pottery fragments discovered at Oaga Vijoii could be dated to the 10th century.

The village of Rojiște is home to the Church of “Sfântul Nicolae”. It dates from 1780 and features original frescoes.

The Church of “Sfântul Ioan Botezătorul” is located in Tîmburești. It dates from 1834 and was restored in 1907 and 1928.

Nature

The Coridorul Jiului protected area (ROSCI0045) was designated a site of community importance in December 2007 to protect 2 plant species and 23 animal species. The protected natural area of Coridorul Jiului serves to protect biodiversity, wild animals and plants, and natural habitats of community interest.

Near Oaga Vijoii, the Craiova–Bechet road crosses a gully formed by runoff between Rojiște and Mârșani.

Connections and Places

National road DN 55 runs through Comuna Rojiște. It connects Craiova with the Danube port of Bechet. Within the commune, it connects the two villages of Rojiște and Tîmburești.
