Culture
The exterior façade of the wooden church “Nașterea Maicii Domnului” in Hărnicești is surrounded by a carved frieze. Its roof is ten metres high, and the tower is nine metres high.

The protected landscape of Mlaștinile Vlășinescu lies at the confluence of the Vlășinescu stream and the Vlășinescu River and forms an oligotrophic peat bog.

A trail leads from the wooden church “Cuvioasa Paraschiva” in Desești over the foothills of Culmea Pietrei and through the Iezer Valley to the Iezeru Mare peat bog.
Cheile Tătarului can be reached from Mara upstream via a trail marked with a red cross.

The 120-kilometre autotourist circuit “Maramureșul Istoric: Din Desești, la Hoteni și Ocna Șugatag” passes through Mara, Desești, Hoteni and Ocna Șugatag.
The Maramureșul Istoric autotourist circuit can be reached via Baia Sprie–Pasul Gutâi–Mara or via Cavnic–Pasul Neteda–Budești. Public transport services are designated for the connection between Baia Mare, Pasul Gutâi and Sighetu Marmației.
