Wine and History

Podgoria Corcova covers 55 hectares; traditional local grape varieties approved under the DOC designation Mehedinți-Corcova have been replanted there. Its winemaking tradition dates back to the 15th century. From the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, Podgoria Corcova was owned by Prince Anton Bibescu. The cellars he built in Corcova were completely renovated in 2008–2009. The Domeniul Catleya winery was founded in Corcova in 2007 by Laurent Pfeffer, Frédéric Vauthier and Dominique Pfeffer.

Terroir and Visiting Hours

The terroir of Podgoria Corcova is associated with a temperate continental climate with Mediterranean influences and mineral-rich soils, and is characteristic of the Piemontul Motrului. Visits to the Corcova Roy & Dâmboviceanu winery are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. On weekends, visits are intended for groups of at least 10 people and require advance reservation. Weekdays and weekends form two different time frames here; they should not be interpreted as an identical visiting situation when making your own plans.

Culture and Regional Connections

The Biserica “Sf. Voievozi” stands in the local area of Corcova, an Orthodox church dating to 1752.
