Culture and History

Ugern connects its local link to Ogra with historical and religious traces that can be seen in individual buildings and monuments. The foundations of Castelul Haller in Ogra were laid in the 17th century. Castelul Haller contains a private Roman Catholic chapel where Franciscan monks held services.

The Monumentul Eroilor Români din Al Doilea Război Mondial was unveiled in Ogra in the summer of 1990. It consists of a rhomboidal column more than 5 m high, made of mosaic concrete, with a cross-shaped artwork at the top. The monument commemorates Romanian soldiers who fell in action during the fighting in autumn 1944.

Other cultural sites are located in different spatial relationships to Ogra: Fosta Sinagoga is a synagogue in the vicinity of Ogra. The Târgu Mureș–Castelul Haller–Ogra cycling tour passes through Ogra. It covers 41 km on roads and 30 km on country lanes. The two figures show what share of the route is accounted for by each type of surface. This allows anyone classifying the tour to consider road sections and country lanes separately, rather than combining them into a single distance.

Accommodation

Since 2011, Castelul Haller has served as a guesthouse, restaurant and wine cellar. The historic site and its current use are therefore part of the same context, without combining the other cultural and landscape features into a single offering.
