Sângeorgiu de Mureş combines concrete offerings with clearly identified destinations and cultural sites. The townscape extends from the saltwater baths to Máriaffi Castle and the Csíki Mill, as well as event and landscape sites in the immediate and wider regional surroundings.

Baths and Wellness

Băile Sărate Sângeorgiu de Mureș have concentrated mineral water containing chloride, sodium and iodine, mineral mud and a gentle bioclimate. The facilities include warm-water baths, a sauna, mud packs, massages and physiotherapy equipment; there are also outdoor saltwater pools and a landscaped beach. This means that water and heat facilities stand alongside treatments with mineral mud and physiotherapy equipment.

Băile Sărate Sângeorgiu de Mureș originated from a saltwater pool built in 1880. During drilling for natural gas, saltwater emerged from a depth of 864 metres in 1912–1913. The present description of the baths therefore encompasses both the geological conditions underlying the saltwater and the history of their use that developed from them.

Culture and History

The public collection of Sângeorgiu de Mureș has a permanent exhibition in Máriaffi Castle and provides the public with access to culture for educational and recreational purposes. Máriaffi Castle is open to visitors; visits can be arranged by telephone at +40 721 233 751. It was built in 1870.

The history of the Csíki Mill began in 1912, when Váradi Béla built a rural mill. Alongside the exhibition and the open castle, a historic mill site is therefore also one of the identified cultural and historical points of Sângeorgiu de Mureş.

Events

The VIBE Festival brings together more than 50,000 participants every year on the banks of the Mureș in Sângeorgiu de Mureș. A bus line connects Târgu Mureș, Sângeorgiu de Mureș, Selgros in Ernei and Ernei. The festival information describes a recurring large-scale event on the Mureș, while the bus line identifies the participating locations and stops connecting them.
