Gura Râului stretches along the banks of the Cibin River. The Cindrel Nature Park is located within the municipality.
Nature and Water
A reservoir regulated by a dam lies on the Cibin River within the municipality. The imposing Gura Râului dam is situated in a landscape shaped by mountain ridges. Visitors can stop on the dam and admire the surrounding landscape. The far end of the Gura Râului reservoir is accessible by car. Alternatively, you can take a coach to Gura Râului and walk for about two hours from the municipality to the reservoir. This allows you to experience the watercourse, reservoir and mountain landscape at different points during your stay. The visit therefore focuses both on a striking structure by the water and on the open landscape of the mountain ridges.
Culture and Village Life
The “Bujorul de Munte” festival takes place every year below the dam in Gura Râului. The “Sf. Mihail şi Gavril” Church was built in 1887. It combines Byzantine and Baroque stylistic elements, while its tower features Gothic elements. You should contact the priest before visiting the church. On Sundays and public holidays, residents of Gura Râului attend the church wearing traditional costumes and follow a customary seating arrangement. Old hydraulic installations have been preserved in the households of Gura Râului. A covered bridge over the Cibin River is considered a local attraction in the area around Gura Râului.
Routes
The Gura-Râului–Râul Mic–Sub Duși–Crinț–Sibiel MTB route is just under 50 km long and has an elevation gain of around 1,000 m. It begins at the “Trecătoarea Lupilor” ski slope at the exit from Gura Râului towards the reservoir and runs along the reservoir’s left bank. At the end of the reservoir, the route continues along the path in the riverbed of the Râul Mic and climbs towards “Sub Duși” at an altitude of 1,230 m. The Coada lacului Gura Râului–Şaua Cânaia–Valea Sadului hiking route is marked with a blue triangle on a white background. The two routes differ in their routing and type; length and elevation gain are provided exclusively for the MTB route, while the blue triangle on a white background exclusively identifies the hiking route. For the MTB route, length and elevation gain describe the extent of the course, while the color and shape combination on the hiking route provides orientation along the marked path. When choosing between the two routes, the type, course, extent and marking are therefore the decisive distinguishing details.
To compare the routes, the MTB route with its approximate length and elevation figures and the blue triangle of the hiking route should be considered separately.
When choosing a hotel in Gura Râului, you can weigh the information about the reservoir, church and routes, as well as travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions, according to your travel plans.
