Rădăuţi: Bogdana Monastery, Churches and Folklore

Bogdana Monastery is considered Moldavia's first necropolis and contains the graves of members of the Muşatin family, including Bogdan I, Petru II (Muşat), Roman I and Ştefan I. The graves of the Muşatin family belong to the medieval history of Moldavia; the church and necropolis were not built at the same time.

The “Pogorârea Duhului Sfânt” Cathedral was built in two phases: the first lasted from 1927 to 1940, and the second from 1947 to 1961. In 2004, it was declared a historic monument. The Roman Catholic Church “Sfânta Fecioară Maria” represents a different chronological and architectural focus. It was built in the Romanesque style from 1823 to 1826 and was also declared a historic monument in 2004. The Jewish Temple was built from 1880 to 1883 and inaugurated on 18 August 1883. This building was also declared a historic monument in 2004. The different construction periods and religious traditions remain distinguishable for each of the buildings mentioned.

The Rădăuţi area is home to the marshland of the same name. It covers 5 hectares and is designated as a nature reserve. A market for ceramic vessels has been held in Rădăuţi every year in July and August since 1982. The international folklore festival “ARCANUL” has been held in Rădăuţi since 1992. It presents traditional songs and dances from Romania's ethnofolkloric regions, as well as traditions from other countries. The station's reception building in Rădăuţi also dates from 1889, was modernized in 2001 and declared a historic monument in 2004. The dates record both its original construction and its subsequent modernization and historic-monument status.
