Mitrovac – Nature Trails and Visitor Center

Mitrovac is one of Tara’s two tourist centers. The settlement is one of the largest plateaus in the Tara Mountains and lies at an altitude of around 1,080 m above sea level. The Tara National Park visitor center in Mitrovac opened in 2006. Covering 220 m², it includes an information point, a souvenir shop, exhibitions, and a lecture hall with 40 seats. It therefore brings together several forms of information: you will find a point of contact for guidance, can visit exhibitions, and can use a larger space for lectures. The starting point for the hiking trails in the Mitrovac area is at the intersection by the Tara National Park visitor center.

The platform at “Tepih Livada” is used for field demonstrations accompanied by authorized staff of Tara National Park. At the same time, the number of visitors on the platform is limited to 20 people. Visiting this area is therefore characterized by a specific format and a concrete upper limit. If you include this point in your plans, you should understand it as an accompanied part of the nature experience and not as an unrestricted viewing platform described without limitations.

For cyclists, the Zlatibor–Mokra Gora–Mitrovac route is listed as approximately 48 km long, with a total ascent of around 3,600 m. The “Wild Bear” cycling race takes place every September in Tara National Park. It comprises three stages, each of which starts and finishes in Mitrovac. Mitrovac has cold winters. The average snow cover is approximately 1 m thick and remains for around 100 days a year.
