Subotica is known for several buildings that are outstanding examples of Secession architecture. The City Hall was built between 1908 and 1912 based on designs by Budapest architects Marcell Komor and Dezső Jakab. It has four courtyards and four entrances. The Subotica Synagogue was also built in 1902 based on a design by Marcell Komor and Dezső Jakab and contains elements of Hungarian Art Nouveau.

The synagogue is decorated with floral motifs on its façade and in its interior. Its stained-glass windows were made at the Budapest workshop of Miksa Róth. The façade decorations and roof tiles came from the Zsolnay ceramics factory in Pécs. This means that the building can be considered not only in terms of when it was constructed, but also with regard to the workshops involved and the design of its details.

The City Hall also offers numerous details to discover during an architectural tour. Its Art Nouveau elements include Hungarian folk motifs, stylized floral patterns, colorful ceramic ornamentation and elaborate wrought-iron work. If you want to view buildings from more than the outside, these different design elements provide a specific reason to consider the façades and interiors separately.

Numerous hiking and cycling trails run through the landscape of the Subotica Sands, also known as Subotička Peščara, in the surrounding area of Subotica.
