Zádubnie near Žilina: Dubeň Observation Tower and Local History

From the Prípojná stop in Zádubnie, the green-marked educational trail leads to the Dubeň Observation Tower. The shortest route from Žilina-Zádubnie is approximately 1.4 kilometres long and leads across a meadow and through the forest. The nearly 28-metre-high observation tower stands on the summit of Dubeň above the village of Teplička nad Váhom.

Nature

The Dubeň Observation Tower is 27.4 metres high and has ten levels. The steel structure is clad in wood. From the observation tower, you can see across the entire city of Žilina and the surrounding area. Information panels at the tower provide details about the natural features and historical sights of the surrounding area.

The Dubeň Observation Tower is considered accessible year-round. The route connects a meadow with a section of forest and leads from the Zádubnie stop to the viewpoint.

Culture and History

In the lower part of the cemetery in Zádubnie stands the House of God's Mercy, Dom Božieho milosrdenstva in Slovak. The house was blessed on 9 October 2005. The Zádubnie filial parish also has a Sunday Mass scheduled for 8:00 a.m.

The local history also goes back a long way: Zádubnie was mentioned as early as 1438 under the name Zadubnye. The historical coat of arms of Zádubnie depicted a man carrying a forked branch on his shoulder. Alongside the House of God's Mercy and the historical information on the panels at the observation tower, this brings together religious and local-historical references.

Getting Around

For public transport connections, DPMŽ bus route 27 runs between Hájik, Hurbanova, Budatín, Zádubnie and Zástranie, and back. Zádubnie is also located on a named cycle route: the Žilina–Straník–Radoľa cycling loop leads on its return journey from Zástranie via Zádubnie to Žilina.
