Ľadonhora defines the landscape of Horný Vadičov: At 999.20 m above sea level, it is the highest point in the town. Ľadonhora is also a state nature reserve. These two features give Horný Vadičov a clearly recognisable natural profile, complemented by winter sports, cycling and regularly held cultural and sporting events.

Winter sports

Parking is available at the Snowsun Vadičov ski resort, including directly below the lift. The ski resort can be reached by bus and by car. A bus stop is located 200 metres from the ski resort. The options mentioned combine two different forms of arrival with a clearly designated parking facility at the winter sports area.

Visitors to the Snowsun Vadičov ski resort have access to two TATRAPOMA drag lifts. Each of the two lifts has an inclined length of 650 metres. The lift facilities are therefore characterised by the same length and by their designation as TATRAPOMA drag lifts.

Cycling

The challenging “Terchová–Žilina přes kopce” mountain bike route passes through Horný Vadičov. The route is approximately 54 kilometres long and has more than 1,200 metres of elevation gain. It is suitable for experienced mountain bikers as well as for e-bikes capable of handling long climbs and fast descents. With its route through Horný Vadičov, approximate length and significant elevation difference, it is described as an endurance-oriented and technically demanding cycling tour.

Culture and events

Regularly held cultural and sporting events in Horný Vadičov include the carnival procession with the symbolic burial of the double bass and “Hudobné leto vo Vadičove”. Both events thus stand alongside the town’s sporting activities and represent their own clearly defined cultural forms.

An important religious building is the “Kostol sv. Mikuláša biskupa” church in Horný Vadičov. It was consecrated on 2 July 1806 and is a single-nave Classicist church with a segmentally terminated presbytery. A tower approximately 30 metres high with a pyramid roof is incorporated into the building. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

The local religious landscape also includes the “božie muky” wayside shrine. It contains a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Visitors were invited to dance and sing with the Vajčovci folklore group at the “Váľanie mája” event announced for 30 May 2026.
