Trstená: Hotels, Cycling Route and Pottery Craft

Trstená offers several different ways to experience a stay: cycling paths, sacred architectural history, traditional crafts and nature along the Bubeník nature trail stand side by side. The town combines specific places and routes with insights into regional culture. For visitors who like to plan their days around clear destinations, the themes range from a cycling route and exhibitions to viewpoints and scheduled concert dates.

Culture and Crafts

St. Martin’s Church stands on the Gothic foundations of Trstená’s first stone church, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. Its tower contains two exhibition levels and has a balcony height of 26.5 m. Beneath St. Martin’s Church is a crypt that was restored in 2017. Architectural history, exhibition spaces and a clearly specified restoration date are therefore among the cultural points of reference within Trstená.

The town museum also preserves a permanent cultural theme: the Orava Clay Nativity Scene is a permanent exhibition of the Trstená Town Museum. The local craft tradition also includes traditional Trstená ceramics, which are still made in Trstená today by a master potter. Traditional pottery craft from Trstená can be tried out under the guidance of an experienced master potter.

Cycling and Accessibility

A 3.507 km section of the Cesta okolo Tatier runs through Trstená along a path beside the Oravica River towards Liesek, and then continues along a railway embankment to the municipality of Liesek. Along the cycling route in Trstená there are benches, waste bins, bicycle racks and information boards. Vertical traffic signs there are intended for pedestrians and cyclists.

Another signposted connection also starts in the town: the Trstená–Nowy Targ cycling route begins in Trstená. The town can be reached by bicycle, car or trains that allow bicycles to be carried. Different means of transport are therefore explicitly part of the described accessibility, while the two cycling connections each retain their own route and starting point.

Nature

The Bubeník nature trail uses bilingual interactive panels about the local cultural and natural heritage. At the end of the Bubeník nature trail, on the summit of Bubeník Hill, there is a rest area with benches, a fire pit and a telescope. This rest area offers views of the Western Tatras with the Roháče peaks, the Orava Reservoir and Babia Góra. The nature trail, rest area and viewpoint therefore form part of a clearly identified location on Bubeník Hill.

Cultural Events

The Trstenská organová jeseň concert series takes place at St. Martin’s Church in Trstená on 21 September, 28 September and 5 October 2025, each time at 16:00. In addition, the town of Trstená invited visitors to the 30th edition of the Trstenská krídlovka brass music festival.
