Čajkov: Wine Routes, Štiavnické vrchy and Culture

Čajkov combines viticulture, paths through the landscape and traditional cultural heritage into a diverse local character. The local character of Čajkov also includes the slopes and ridges of the Štiavnické vrchy and historical heritage.

Landscape

Most of the cadastral territory of Čajkov consists of ridges and slopes of the Štiavnické vrchy. The northern part of the cadastral territory lies within the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area.

Wine

Viticulture shapes several facets of Čajkov. Muráni grows grapes on ten hectares of volcanic tuff soil within the cadastral territory. The Muráni winery is located in a former tobacco drying facility on the southern edge of Čajkov. There, Muráni invites visitors to taste its current selection of wines together with the winemaker.

The Oblastná degustácia vín Čajkov was held for the 30th time in 2026. Čajkovské vinobranie takes place at the end of the grape harvest and preserves the memory of local folklore. Čajkov is also home to a wine museum on the grounds of the former kindergarten.

Culture

The Church of St. Nicholas in Čajkov is a Rococo church. It was built between 1775 and 1779 on the site of a Gothic church dating from the second half of the 15th century. Its furnishings include Late Baroque side altars as well as Rococo elements such as the confessional, pews and door surrounds. The parish church also has an 18th-century Late Baroque pulpit with a relief of Saint Paul and a statue of the Good Shepherd.

The traditional costume from the Tekov region, still worn in Čajkov today, is part of the living heritage. Women from Čajkov continue to master the demanding production of richly decorated traditional costumes. Alongside viticulture, this places traditional crafts and folkloric forms of expression at the heart of the village.

Hiking

The Čajkovské bralie circular trail begins and ends in Čajkov; its stated duration is four hours. The Čajkovské bralie educational trail introduces visitors to natural, nature conservation and historical aspects of the area around Čajkov. Its start and end points are at the bus stop and car park in Čajkov.

The green regional cycling route 5126 connects Tlmače, Rybník, Čajkov and Nová Dedina. In Čajkov, the cycling route from Tlmače via Rybník and Čajkov to Nová Dedina follows local wine routes and passes between wine houses known as Hajloks. A cycling route through Čajkov offers views of the surrounding municipalities from the vineyards.
