Ladice on Tribeč: Culture, Trails and Local History

Ladice combines landscapes, local history, rural architectural heritage and folk traditions. Between the church, museum, historic tombs and marked trails, a multifaceted picture of the village emerges, complemented by specific sites and the regional bus connection.

Landscape

Ladice lies at the southeastern foothills of the Tribeč Mountains, at the transition to the Žitava Hills. The village extends in a semicircular shape on both banks of the Drevenica stream and lies at an elevation of 160 to 400 m.

Culture and History

The Roman Catholic Church of All Saints in Ladice was rebuilt in the Baroque style, renovated around 1790, and renovated and repainted again at the beginning of the 20th century. Inside is a Gothic bell bearing the year 1315, which is now displayed on a pedestal. On a vineyard hill on the Tekov side of Ladice, there is also a stone statue of Saint Urban dating from 1834. It stands on a tall column that tapers toward the top.

The former Catholic school building in Ladice now serves as a museum with numerous historical exhibits. The architectural heritage also includes Folk House No. 100. It dates from the 19th century, is made of unfired bricks, plastered and whitewashed, and has a three-part floor plan. Ladice Cemetery contains seven carved wooden tombstones from the 19th century, as well as several cast-iron tombstones.

At the lower end of Ladice stands the stone remains of a square pillar, probably a monument. According to local tradition, it dates from the Turkish period and commemorates a canon from Nitra and his entourage. The Turkish Monument in Ladice is associated with the attack by an Ottoman troop on the carriage of a canon of the Nitra Chapter in the immediate vicinity of Ladice, shortly after the Battle of Veľké Vozokany in 1652.

Folk Culture

The Hajnalkert folklore ensemble was founded in 1969 initially as a women's choir; men joined a year later. It developed into a folklore ensemble dedicated to preserving folk traditions. Its repertoire includes various folk songs, folk customs and the ladder dance typical of Ladice. The ensemble takes part in numerous events in Slovakia, Hungary and Austria every year.

Hiking and Short Walks

The green-marked hiking trail 5129 connects Oponice and Ladice and passes stops 4 to 9 of the Kostoliansky educational trail. Another described section of trail near the “Ladice, OcÚ” tourist sign leads across a bridge over the Drevenica. The sign is located at an elevation of 196 m, parking is available, and the easy section is 0.2 km long and takes about 3 minutes.

Regional Bus

Regional bus route 407414 connects Zlaté Moravce with Kostoľany pod Tríbečom and is valid from 1 August to 12 December 2026. In Ladice, it serves four stops: “Ladice, železničná zastávka”, “Ladice, PD”, “Ladice, kostol” and “Ladice, domovina”.
