Tatranska Kotlina – Belianska jaskyňa and educational trails

Tatranska Kotlina is particularly well explored through the Belianska jaskyňa. The cave is known for its rich abundance of calcite sinter formations. The sightseeing tour through the Belianska jaskyňa is 1,370 m long, has an elevation difference of 125 m and 874 steps, and takes approximately 70 minutes. The Belianska jaskyňa is a 15-minute walk from the car park in Tatranská Kotlina.

Nature

There is also a dedicated educational trail from Tatranská Kotlina to the cave leading to the Belianska jaskyňa. It comprises six stations that deal primarily with geology and speleology. History and culture

The Belianska jaskyňa was discovered in 1881. After the cave had been discovered, the settlement of Tatranská Kotlina began developing in 1882.

The forest educational trail is located on Cesta slobody between Tatranská Kotlina and Tatranská Lomnica, near a bus stop. It focuses on the history of the local forests and technical monuments related to forestry. Its emphasis is therefore on the connection between forest history and the technical evidence of forestry.

Trails

From the Čarda bus stop in Tatranská Kotlina, the green-marked trail leads to Chata Plesnivec in approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. Chata Plesnivec is the only mountain hut in the Belianske Tatras. On the ground floor, the kitchen and dining room offer hot and cold food, drinks and souvenirs.

There is also a clearly graded route for mountain biking. Cycling route 5897 is 6.8 km long, has an elevation difference of 546 m and is classified as “Expert – difficult” for mountain biking on forest roads, gravel and partly stony surfaces. It starts at the Čarda stop in Tatranská Kotlina and initially passes by the Fľak educational trail.

A year-round shuttle service operates in both directions and brings passengers closer to hiking trails, sights and connections to public transport.
