Uhrovec: Hotels, Museum and Nature Reserve

Uhrovec is home to the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, a Neoclassical church built in 1817.

Culture and History

The birthplace of Ľudovít Štúr and Alexander Dubček is located in Uhrovec, the birthplace of both personalities, and was declared a national cultural monument as early as 1965. The Uhrovské Museum, an ethnographic museum that has been open since 2004, is also located in the village. Its collections include a Gothic bell from 1511 and a Renaissance bell from 1653.

Visits to the Uhrovské Museum require prior registration by telephone, Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Uhrovský kaštieľ was gradually converted into a fortified family residence by the Zaiovci family. The Zay Library in the side wing contained more than 20,000 volumes. Restoration of Uhrovský kaštieľ is currently suspended due to a lack of financial resources. The surviving parts of nearby Uhrovec Castle include a late Romanesque chapel and towers. From Uhrovské Podhradie, the castle can be reached in about 30 minutes via a green-marked trail.

Nature

Jankov vŕšok lies within the cadastral area of Uhrovec and has been a nature reserve since 1993. Jankov vŕšok is characterized by calcareous stands of cornelian cherry-oak forests and a large abundance of orchids, including the purple orchid and the common orchid.

The SNP monument on Jankov vŕšok consists of a memorial mound complex with a pylon and mausoleum. SNP celebrations are held there every year at the end of August. The Striebornica recreational area includes an educational trail focusing on aquatic and wetland ecosystems.
